We’re Moving! Our Naperville School will move to our new home over the Winter Break.
As many of you have probably noticed, the area around our Naperville location has been less and less populated by other businesses over the past few months. The lack of tenant occupancy in our building is very likely due to our landlord being a deadbeat.
We have been unhappy in our space for years and have struggled to maintain an environment that is safe, clean, well maintained and with adequate heating and cooling. Unfortunately, our landlord refuses to make any effort to help with necessary repairs and improvements to the property, and our rent and utilities are extremely expensive.
For these reasons, we actively started looking for a new location for the school.
I am delighted to tell you that we have signed a lease with St. Timothy Lutheran Church at 1313 N. Mill Street in Naperville. The church has exactly the kind of space we need for both our private teaching studios as well as group class space. We can even use their beautiful sanctuary as our solo recital space.
First, I want everyone to know that this search has been going on for years, and we were determined to find a space that truly met all of our needs. I am confident that we have found a home that will work wonderfully for us for many years. The Ministerial staff at the church are thrilled to have us under their roof. Senior Minister David Miller has two children, both of whom grew up to be professional musicians, and the entire staff of the church not only welcome a music program, but specifically the Suzuki Method.
This is the third church that we have seriously considered, but each of the others did not meet all of our requirements. This has not been an easy task.
I want you all to know that we mapped the distance of each of our current student’s home to the new location and were happy to see that for the vast majority of students, the commute to the school will be either the same distance in a different direction, or closer. For those families whose commute will be longer, we hope that you will feel that the value of the instruction and programming afforded by the Naperville Suzuki School is well worth the additional commute time. We also understand that there may be a period of adjustment and that a few students who will travel a greater distance may need to switch their lesson times in order to accommodate the longer commute. We beg everyone’s cooperation as our faculty carefully reviews where some of these adjustments may need to be made.
The best part of this new arrangement is financial. While our student population is nearly equally divided between Western Springs and Naperville, our overhead costs in Naperville are more than double those in Western Springs. This has made it difficult to give our faculty even cost of living raises without an increase in tuition. Going forward, we should be able to hold our tuition rates steady for at least the next few years.
Our move will take place during the Christmas break. When we return to session in January, we will be coming to our new home at St. Timothy Lutheran. I’m very excited for you all to see it! Please feel free to google the address, and maybe make a trial run to the church from your home to see what your commute will be like.
