I’m excited to invite to you to my solo double bass recital that will take place at Harper College, on Saturday, April 7. I’m very fortunate to be accompanied in this recital by a longtime friend and colleague, French-American pianist and composer from Chicago, Lara Driscoll (laradriscoll.com).
Many pieces that are part of the program have been on my music stand for a long time, but certain things in life had to have happened first in order for me to find time and clarity to prepare them for a public performance. The difficult task for a bass soloist is, perhaps, to find material that is not only fresh and musically captivating, but also appropriately suitable for the range of the instrument.
For me, personally, there also was always the difficult task of finding my own voice that allows me to weave common themes between the music from Baroque, Tango Nuevo, and Jazz. Although I believe that I’m only at the start of this exciting journey of musical discovery, I think I was able to find the right pieces that allow me to not only express myself, but also allow to showcase the bass from different angles.
