Upon graduation from Dr. Suzuki's Talent Education Research Institute in Matsumoto Japan, teachers would recite a pledge to commit to lifelong learning. Suzuki asked teachers to reflect on their instrument, the development of beautiful tone, and the tremendous potential of every child.
As part of our life-long commitment to learning, several of the teachers on our faculty are currently enrolled in a practicum course with Director, Edward Kreitman. In the Practicum, 4 or 5 teachers watch videos together of each others' teaching. We then reflect, analyze and discuss ways to improve our teaching. This course is a powerful tool for developing awareness of communication skills, assessment skills, as well as musical and technical issues around the instrument being taught. We also look at ways to better communicate with the parent and discuss the best way to reach each student with their individual and unique learning style.
