We have all been watching from the comfort of our very dry homes– the devastation of Houston and parts of Louisiana. You may have been feeling helpless or wondering if there was something that you could do to help. You may not realize that there are hundreds of Suzuki families just like ours who have lost everything...including their instruments and music. Can you imagine how devastating this would be for your child?
The Suzuki Association of the Americas has set up a Suzuki Relief Fund for families from the affected areas. 100% of donations will go to help Suzuki families who are in need.
The Association has set up two ways to donate. You can make a direct donation through their website, or better yet, participate in the Practice-a-thon. This program will allow your child to feel that they are actually doing something tangible to help others in need.
After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki Schools raised over 14,000.00. This money went to purchase new instruments for children who lost theirs in the Hurricane and to help put on the New Orleans Suzuki institute the following summer. Our generous donation also led to an invitation for our Allegro!!! group to travel to New Orleans the next year to play a benefit concert for the Suzuki Association there.
In addition to helping other children, and getting a great start on your practice routine for the year, we will also offer some prizes for the children who do the best in the following categories.
1. Student who practices the most number of minutes. 2. Student who has the most number of pledges 3. Student who has the highest pledge amount per minute 4. Student who raises the most overall.
We will announce our winners and the total amount raised by our group at the November 19th concert at Hammerschmidt Chapel. If you would like to participate in this program, please click here.
