The cellists enjoyed an afternoon of Suzuki cello repertoire on November 22 at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. The fact that it was also to benefit Blume Haiti, was an extra bonus. The students prepared two Haitian pieces: Clair de Lune, written by a sixteen year old Haitian cellist, Sabrina Jean Louis. All the students from early book one on up, learned a part to play in one large cello choir. In addition, Cellissimo performed a traditional Haitian piece, Bel Ayiti.
Blume Haiti's mission is to "work with Haitian and International partners to develop leadership skills, awaken individual potential, and create opportunities for social and civic collaboration and economic development through music education and performance." If you wish to donate to this cause, please pick up a brochure in the school office or go to www.blumehaiti.org.
The cellists performed many selections from Suzuki books 1-4, ending with a rousing version of Twinkle Boogie! Cellissimo rounded out the program by playing four more pieces.
Many thanks to Melissa Zindel and Jon Neuhoff for their piano collaboration.
