Faculty News: Ryan Caparella performs with the Mantovani Orchestra in China
February 5, 2015
Over winter break, faculty member Ryan Caparella played concerts across China with The Mantovani Orchestra. Mr. Caparella has been playing with The Mantovani Orchestra since 2007, and this was his third time touring China with the orchestra. The 40-piece orchestra played to full houses and enthusiastic audiences at The Beijing National Grand Theater, The Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, and concert halls in Guangzhou, Foshan, Shenzhen, Xining, Lanzhou, Suzhou, Xian, and Xiamen.
Most Memorable Moment
"We had a very cool, and definitely unique experience after our concert at the brand new Shanghai Poly Theatre. It was a wonderfully enthusiastic audience through the entire show, and we were honored to be playing in such a beautiful new hall. During every applause, one particularly exuberant audience member was holding up an old Mantovani record from the '60s that he had brought with him - he was practically jumping up and down for us to notice him. After the final encore, a few of us walked to the edge of the stage to see the album up close, and when we did, a good chunk of the audience rushed the stage for autographs. Not something we experience too often as classical musicians!"
