2010 - 2011 Teacher Training Course Offerings
The Suzuki Association of the Americas (www.suzukiassociation.org)
has developed an extensive teacher development course. This course is offered at various locations
across the country by a select group of registered teacher trainers. The Western Springs School of
Talent Education faculty hosts four of the country’s leading teacher trainers.

This year the Western Springs School of Talent Education will offer three levels of training in Suzuki Pedagogy.
Apprenticeship Teacher Training Courses create a community of teachers who meet together to receive
pedagogical instruction from Suzuki Association of the Americas registered teacher trainers. Together, we share
teaching problems and solutions. Upon completion of all course requirements, participants will register their training
with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
Violin Book One
Edward Kreitman - Teacher Trainer
Alternate Tuesday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm beginning October 12th and ending in May.
This course will cover the principals of Suzuki teaching including philosophy, parent education, left and right hand
set-up, and teaching points for all pieces in book one. An additional 15 hours of observation will be required for
S.A.A. registration.
Registration Fee: $700.00
Violin Book Two
Edward Kreitman - Teacher Trainer
Alternate Tuesday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm beginning October 19th and ending in December.
This course will focus on the principals of Suzuki teaching including philosophy,
tonalization and teaching points for all pieces in book two. An additional 8 hours of
observation will be required for S.A.A. registration. Observations can be done online through our observation website.
Registration Fee: $350.00
Violin Book Three
Edward Kreitman - Teacher Trainer
Alternate Tuesday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm beginning January 18th, 2011 and ending in May.
This course will focus on the principals of Suzuki teaching including philosophy, tonalization and
teaching points for all pieces in book three with a special emphasis on developing musicianship.
An additional 8 hours of observation will be required for S.A.A. registration.
Observations can be done online through our observation website.
Registration Fee: $350.00
Violin Book Four
Nancy Jackson - Teacher Trainer
Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

This course will cover all of the musical and technical development of the material in Suzuki Violin book 4
as well as additional technical exercises and supplemental repertoire related to this level.
An additional 8 hours of observation will be required for S.A.A. registration.

Violin Book Five
Nancy Jackson - Teacher Trainer
Alternate Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm beginning January 12th 2011.
This course will cover all of the musical and technical development of the material in Suzuki Violin
book 5 as well as additional technical exercises and supplemental repertoire related to this level.
An additional 8 hours of observation will be required for S.A.A. registration.
Registration Fee: $350.00
Individual Apprenticeship Teacher Training
Training in the upper level violin books is available with Thomas Wermuth on an individual private
lesson basis. Lesson fees arranged with the instructor Cello Teacher Training at all levels is available on an
individual basis with Sally Gross. Lesson fees arranged with the instructor.

Edward Kreitman is the founder and Director of the Western Springs School of Talent Education.
Mr. Kreitman received his undergraduate degree from Western Illinois University where he studied Suzuki Pedagogy
with Doris Preucil and Almita Vamos. In 1986, he studied at the Talent Education Summer School with Dr. Suzuki
in Matsumoto, Japan.
He is well known throughout the United States and Canada as a guest clinician at Suzuki institutes and
workshops. Mr. Kreitman is a registered Teacher Trainer of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Mr. Kreitman is the author
of Teaching from the Balance Point - A Guide for Suzuki Parents, Teachers, and Students. In 2008 Mr. Kreitman was honored with the
Suzuki Chair Award at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, WI.
Nancy Jackson is currently Assistant Director of the Western Springs School of Talent Education. Prior to moving to the
Chicago area, Ms. Jackson was Assistant Professor of Music at Western Illinois University, violin/viola instructor in the Talent
Education Program of the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana, and the founder of the Suzuki School of Music in Bismarck, North
Dakota. Ms. Jackson holds a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Violin Performance from Northwestern University. She is a
registered Teacher Trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is a frequent clinician at workshops and summer institutes.
Thomas Wermuth offers teacher training in the advanced levels of Suzuki Violin instruction
through one on one private instruction.
Sally Gross offers teacher training in all levels of Suzuki Cello instruction through one
on one private instruction or small group classes.
Participants who complete all of the requirements of the class may register their course work with the
Suzuki Association of the Americas:
