CHICAGO CONSORT

The Chicago Consort  is one of America’s premier student performing ensembles. Since its founding in 1983 by Musical Director Thomas Wermuth, the Chicago Consort has performed concerts and workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, China and South America. In June of 2022, the group conducted a successful concert tour to Spain under the direction of Music Director, Patrick Connolly.

The students range in age from 13 to 18. All of the students began their studies in the Suzuki Method at the Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki School.  After  completing the Suzuki repertoire they are currently studying the standard violin concerto repertoire.  Individually the performers participate in various youth orchestras and frequently hold chairs in the Illinois All State Orchestra. Many members of the group have won numerous prizes in local, regional, national and international competitions.

The Chicago Consort has recorded four compact discs. Their first, entitled "Jealousy...and other songs of the heart" contains a variety of Tangos  and other dances.  Their most popular release is "A Consort Christmas" which contains music appropriate for the holiday season.  Their recent recording of the "Vivaldi Four Seasons" is a unique arrangement featuring a different student performer as soloist on each movement of the work.  Their latest compact disc released in the fall of 2007 is entitled "Contrasts."

The Chicago Consort is led by Music Director Patrick Connolly, pianist Maria Yeh, and Executive Director Edward Kreitman.
